Ushering in the Remote Gambling Era

UK gambling industry is worth over billions of dollars and is expanding to unprecedented levels. The UK gambling scene not only includes traditional lotteries but also scratch cards and recently online or remote gambling games. Statically speaking, over the last year, conventional gambling such as National Lottery grew at 47.5 percent and National Lottery scratchcards at 12.7 percent. However, this increase would be dwarfed by the growth of remote gambling in the coming few years. As technology is growing at a phenomenal pace, what was once considered communication luxury is now just plain ordinary. Take for instance handheld smartphones and various connectivity options they offer. Handheld devices such as tablets are now sought after just as much as cellphones and these devices give online gamers options even while on the move. Gamers can now enjoy the excitement of remote games from the comfort of their homes or even during a long commute.

These new connectivity products are integrating themselves into the lives of gamers and becoming more reliable with each passing day. Reliability is a huge word in the world of online games. As reliability of remote gaming devices increase, players' confidence also increases which in turn creates a positive public image essential for gaming websites to succeed in the long run. The advancement and adaptability of gaming devices are directly responsible for the success of an online game-provider. Game developers and online casinos have also foreseen the potential in this mobile segment which is why they have come up with special games and promos just for this sector. Developers are trying to bring in as much innovation as possible into remote gambling and its any ones guess how the industry behavior would change over the years.

Gambling Commission of UK has predicted that remote gambling would grow exponentially over the next few years with some vital figures to back up the idea. According to a twelve month survey conducted by ICM Research, 57.7 percent of the 4000 adults who participated admitted that they were involved in playing at least one form of gambling such as online bingo over a period of four weeks. Another interesting fact to note about the survey is that the average age of people involved in gambling is above 45-meaning they were responsible adults who had access to newer connectivity products such as tablets and notebooks. In the year to December 2011, 9.8 percent of the surveyed also stated that they had remotely purchased tickets for National Lottery draw. Bear in mind that this is in addition to other types of gambling activities such as online bingo.

According to the survey, eleven percent of access to remote gambling means was through laptops or handheld devices. Mobile phones took 2.9 percent of the action and digital television about 1.3 percent. With mobile and handheld device technology always evolving and getting better in terms of reliability, its only a matter of time before these numbers increase and most probably overtake conventional gambling numbers. One thing is certain, it would be a safe bet to say that the Gambling Commission has got it spot on regarding where remote gambling is headed.
